The Criminal Law Team represents a long history of practice in this field of work both in prosecution and defence. It includes a number of practitioners whose work is exclusively crime.

Members of chambers undertake a wide range of criminal cases in both the Crown Court and Magistrates Court, ranging from minor offences to the most serious and complex cases.

Family Law

The No.8 Family team offers a friendly, reliable and efficient service in advocacy, negotiation and client care.

We have a range of specialist and experienced barristers, in all areas of Family Law, appearing in cases from the Family Proceedings Court to the Court of Appeal.

The team regularly acts for children, parents, local authorities and other family members.

Aspects of Immigration and Criminal Law feature increasingly in Family cases. No.8 Immigration team is highly respected in its field and the Family team benefits from members within it who also practise in Immigration. Immigration & Human Rights

No.8 Chambers has the largest Immigration and Human Rights Teams outside London.

We have a long history of association with the fields of Immigration and Asylum work. Current and former members of Chambers hold judicial appointments in the Immigration Appellate Authority and the Tribunal and now in the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal.

The Team at No.8 Chambers are well known and well respected by the judiciary, instructing solicitors, fellow members of the Bar and lay clients as being user friendly, well prepared and thorough and skilful in both their advocacy and in respect of paperwork. Members have been involved in some of the leading recent cases that have shaped the approach to immigration and human rights claims in Britain.

We pride ourselves in ensuring that a written case report is sent to instructing solicitors within 24 hours of a hearing to inform our professional clients of the outcome of the hearing and to advise any future steps that ought to be undertaken in furtherance of the case.

All paperwork is returned promptly and urgent written advice is often provided within 24 hours. The Team is aware of the strict time limits within which work must be progressed and direct contact is encouraged between the Team and instructing solicitors to ensure compliance with deadlines.

Chambers regularly holds seminars for practitioners in immigration and human rights and speakers have included senior immigration judges and leading counsel.

No.8 Chambers has an experienced civil law team with members covering a wide range of different types of cases. Members of the civil team appear in all courts and tribunals and can help you with any legal problem that you might be having.

We recognise that being in a legal dispute with someone else, whoever they are, can be a time-consuming, stressful and expensive situation to find yourself in. We are committed to helping you find a way through which will help you resolve the situation and allow you to put your case forward at its very highest. This may mean that you just want our advice or help drafting documents, or you might want us to represent you in court.

‘Civil Litigation’ covers many different areas of law. Our members undertake a large variety of types of work, including:

  • Employment: constructive dismissal, wrongful dismissal, unfair dismissal, discrimination (disability, race, sex, age, sexual orientation), equal pay, TUPE.
  • Consumer Rights: defective goods, poor services, holiday complaints and claims, consumer credit, hire purchase.
  • Personal Injury: road traffic accidents, injury at work, trips and slips and industrial disease.
  • Building disputes: Defects, disputes with builders, disputes with customers.
  • Estates and trusts: Wills, Inheritance Act.
  • Commercial: Insolvency, landlord and tenant, partnership, professional negligence, property.
  • Debt: Bankruptcy, Winding-up, mortgage arrears.
  • Property and Housing: commercial and residential, landlords and tenants, private and social housing. Possession, unlawful eviction, rent arrears, mortgage arrears, social housing, anti-social behaviour injunctions, disrepair, transfers, homelessness, trespass, nuisance and land issues such as easements and boundary disputes.
  • Neighbour disputes: boundaries, Party Wall Act, nuisance, injunctions, trespass.
  • “No Win, No Fee” cases considered.

Court of Protection

No. 8 Chambers is pleased to announce the formation of a Court of Protection Team. The Team comprises highly experienced barristers with a history of experience in dealing with matters in relation to incapacity, welfare and property.

Members’ specialisation in closely-linked areas of practice such as immigration law, human rights law, family law and property law enables them to efficiently handle these sensitive cases, which involve vulnerable individuals, with an outstanding level of friendly and reliable service in this developing field of the law.

The Team deals with cases relating to personal welfare applications, contact disputes, emergency applications in the Court of Protection, applications challenging the deprivation of liberty and proceedings concerning 16 and 17 year olds, overlapping both the family courts and the Court of Protection.

Members of the Team are available for advisory or advocacy work. Members of Chambers are proud to provide a straightforward and personal service in all areas of work, and appreciate that in this particularly sensitive area of practice this is often all the more important for vulnerable clients.
